Brief Description:

In February 2014, The Peninsula Community Foundation of Virginia, Inc., partnered with the York Foundation for Public Education, Inc., to administer the Arthur Lee Galloway, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, named for First Lieutenant Arthur Lee Galloway, Jr., U.S. Army, killed in Vietnam in 1971. To this day, the memory and strong character of Lee lives on in the hearts and minds of his 1965 York High School fellow graduates who have memorialized him with a scholarship at YHS since the mid 1980’s. The Arthur Lee Galloway, Jr. Memorial Scholarship is available to a graduating York High School senior who plans on pursuing a post-secondary education. This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving York High School graduating senior who exemplifies Lee’s traits of patriotism, sportsmanship, sense of humor, and a love of reading and journalism. This scholarship has been endowed by loving friends and family.




Eligibility Requirements:

CRITERIA:
  1. Must be a York High School senior.
  2. Must have achieved a cumulative GPA minimum of 2.5 or higher.
  3. Must exemplify A. Lee Galloway’s traits of Patriotism, Athletics, Sense of Humor, and interest in Journalism and Reading.
  4. The total amount of this one-time award is $2,500, payable in full for the first semester.
  5. Deadline to apply is April 15, 2021.
