Joseph H. Levi was a respected and well-liked teacher and coach at Tabb High School for 23 years until retiring in 2010. Just months later, Joe was taken suddenly by cancer. A native of Philadelphia, Joe was a graduate of Villanova University. He relocated to this area in 1976 and was a government teacher for ten years at another local high school. In addition to teaching, Joe was a longtime coach of tennis and wrestling at both schools. Teaching was Joe Levi's "stage." He loved using jokes and puns to entertain his students and made learning government and history fun for an audience of teens who typically find the topic boring. Often referred to by students as "my favorite teacher," Joe is remembered by family, friends, colleagues and former students for his humor as well as engaging political discussions. One former student said of him, "He gave you a sense that you could confide in him."

The Yorktown Football Club Soccer Scholarship is an endowment from the Yorktown Football Soccer Club, a travel soccer club that was founded in 2007. Its purpose is to honor Yorktown Football Club's philosophy of combining volunteering in the community with a passion for soccer. High School seniors from York County and the City of Newport News are eligible to apply. Each year in spring, two deserving athletes, one male and one female, will be awarded a $500 non-renewable scholarship for continuing their education after high school.  From 2007 to 2021, Yorktown Football Club was led solely by experienced volunteers with the aim of advancing soccer skills for young boys and girls.  Yorktown Football Club coaches endeavored not only to teach soccer skills and the value of sportsmanship, but also to instill a commitment to our hometown community. They believed volunteerism and giving back locally was a priority, therefore they modeled that commitment and passed it along to their players as they matured, providing opportunities for service in action. Students who win this award should exemplify these ideals.  The dedicated volunteer coaches, aside from their primary careers, gave countless hours of their time simply for the love of the game and to inspire the Yorktown Football Club philosophy in the players. This vision, enthusiasm, unselfish outlook, and dedication to volunteering formed the pillars upon which the club stood until its dissolution and merger with another local travel club in 2021. Students must be of good moral character, volunteer in the community  and demonstrate a passion for soccer. Students are not required to play soccer on the college level to be eligible for this scholarship.
